James Simon was born in 1880 in Berlin. He studied music in Berlin and Munich and is regarded as a "lost" late romantic composer. In 1933 he emigrated via Switzerland to Amsterdam, where he stayed until his deportation in 1941 to Theresienstadt. He was killed in Auschwitz in 1944.
